Urban Forest Corner – Frere Garden, Karachi

Indus Earth Trust entered into Memorandum of Understanding with Director General Parks and Horticulture Karachi. This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) serves as a statement of the parties’ understandings and intentions regarding the development of an urban forest Corner within a 6600 square foot area at Frere Garden Karachi. By providing on-the-job training and demonstrating the urban forest using the Miyawaki Method as a pilot project, Indus Earth Trust hopes to increase community capacity for the creation of urban forests and contribute to the reduction of air pollution in Karachi.

INDUS EARTH TRUST held a training on ”Urban Forest Development” with Akira Miyawaki Method at Frere Hall for the participants of Community-based Organizations from Karachi’s various districts.

On that occasion, Honorable Consul General Mr. Conrad Tribble – Karachi addressed twenty members of the CBOs and ten members of the Frere Garden staff, He distributed certificates to the trainees and spoke to the youth trainees about the importance of urban forests in cities and their positive effects. Urban forest development training is major component of the project the ‘’Community-based Disaster Risk Management CBDRM Approaches’’ financed by the U.S. Consulate General Karachi under the US Alumni Fund.

INDUS EARTH TRUST developed the Urban Forest Corner’s on the 6600 sft with 2000 different plants at the Frere Garden Karachi, that will contribute the reduction of air pollution in the city, it takes is a small step to create significant change. Honorable Mr. Conrad Tribble – Consul General, Karachi inaugurated the Urban Forest Corner under the ‘’ Building Communities Climate Change Resilient with CBDRM Approach’’ funded by the U.S. Consulate General Karachi, Karachi under the US Alumni Fund.
