What are Green Skills?
Climate change and environmental degradation have had a negative impact on the long-term development of society, economy, and ecology in every country on the planet. To mitigate the effects of the carbon dioxide feedback cycle, several countries have begun to transition their existing economies to a green economy model, which necessitates green companies, green job creation, and green skills.
Climate change, global warming, greenhouse gas emissions, ecosystem, climate justice, zero carbon approach, social and environmental framework, environmental Impact assessment economic instability, health and safety issues related to buildings, waste, and energy in buildings are changing environmental factors that point to the need for green jobs and skills.
Green skills are also known as sustainable development skills. It refers to skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed by labor to support and promote sustainable social and economic development and to improve environment development friendly in business and communities. ‘Green skills’ is generic skills, which include minimizing the use of resources, reducing of greenhouse gas emissions, recycling, using environmentally friendly products, protection of natural environment, and so on.
According to UNIDO, green talents are the information, abilities, values, and attitudes required to live in, create, and support a resource-efficient society. They are also known as sustainability skills.
This Green Skills Development Training Manual contains conceptual and practical tools to assist Youth and CBO activists in understanding the green skills leading Environment, ecology, greenhouse gases, and global warming, with the context of climate change impacts, ESMF, climate justice, zero carbon approach, and pollution.
Training Manual
The manual intends to train activists from community-based organizations and local youth in Karachi’s Malir and East districts. This manual provides adaptable training concepts and materials to help them support and improve their Green Skills. Green skills are “the knowledge, abilities, values, and attitudes required to live in the environment.” It is intended for trainers as well as campaigners. The manual’s precise goals are as follows:
- Impart basic ideas and knowledge of Green Skills
- Explain the community-based Social and Environmental Management Framework.
- Describe the importance of green skills development among Youth and CBOs.
This training manual is designed to assist trainers in conducting training at two levels. The first is to train Youth and CBOs’ activists in green skills development and the importance and potential green jobs at the local level.
Green Skills Development: At this level of training, participants had given conceptual frameworks for green skills, as well as exercises, case studies, and documentaries to enhance their knowledge and provide possibilities for practical application. GSD training materials and activities are offered to provide background information to trainers as well as the steps for participants to create learning environment. Trainers should be conversant with participants’ cultures and socio-cultural distinctions, as well as the environmental context in which participants live and practices.
