Awareness Campaign on Air Pollution
Air pollution in Karachi contains solid and liquid particles, and certain gases in the air. The major polluters are transport and industrial emissions followed by burning of garbage, emissions from refrigerators, generators, flying of dust, and stoves used in houses and hotels.
Karachi’s environment has been badly affected by air pollution. All types of forests along Sindh’s coastline, including mangroves, which used to help absorb carbon dioxide and clean air in Karachi, have dwindled to alarming levels.
General lack of awareness has led to people not being serious towards the adoption of risk mitigation measures for Air Pollution, Climate change scenario like heat waves, vehicle smoke, industrial wastage, and the health seeking behaviors of the general population are mosaic. Serious efforts are required to increase the awareness level of the public to strive against myths and superstitions associated with health-seeking behavior and the non-serious attitude of the general public regarding the severity of climate change mitigation measures.
Indus Earth Trust launched the awareness campaign on the reduction of the ‘’Air Pollution in the Karachi’’. Additionally, reducing the number of cars on the road and promoting public transportation or cycling can help combat air pollution. Raising public awareness about the harmful effects of pollution and promoting environmentally friendly behaviors can also foster a culture of sustainability in Karachi.
It was observed that government offices are major points of the people gathering and visiting on daily basis, Indus Earth Trust placed the Air Pollution Standees there for the general public message. It is important to remember that Climate Change does not differentiate between borders, ethnicities, disability status, age or gender.
