Introduction
Introduction
Climate Change has a tremendous impact on the lives and livelihoods of individuals, communities, and their overall development. In the past, Climate Change disasters, big or small were considered a one-off event or act of God hence unavoidable, and were primarily addressed from a humanitarian relief perspective. However, over the recent decades, it has been acknowledged that disasters are considered a cause and product of climate change. Evidence suggests that disaster risk is intimately connected to processes of human development as hazards are part of the environment.
Vulnerability to natural hazards stems from past development patterns, therefore; “vulnerability to disaster risks is growing faster than our ability to increase resilience”. Communities in Karachi are exposed to a range of natural hazards; Heavy urban floods, heat waves, and changing rainfall patterns have increased the high degree of vulnerability. Climate change and extreme events pose significant threats to the people of Karachi.
